The mission of the Hewlett-Woodmere English Department is to engage all students in a comprehensive literacy program in order to cultivate a love of learning and to inspire students to become life-long readers, writers and thinkers. To empower the next generation for success in life, we are dedicated to the mastery of all literacy skills: reading, writing, listening and speaking. We strive to provide a student-centered learning environment that is designed to maximize individual potential, cultivate character and celebrate success.
The study of English Language Arts in the Hewlett-Woodmere School District integrates reading, writing, speaking, and listening in accordance with New York State’s implementation of the Next Generation Learning Standards.
