Hewlett High School Student Ella Findling’s Pediatric Liver Research is accepted for publication by the Cureus Journal of Medical Science

GW. Hewlett Student Publication in a Medical Journal

Ella Findling Publication Cureus Journal

George W. Hewlett High School is proud to announce a major academic milestone for one of its science research students, Ella Findling. Her research, titled "Glucagon-Like Peptide-1 Receptor Agonists Reduce Liver Stiffness in a Pediatric Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Liver Disease Cohort and Normalize Disease-associated Core Gene Expression in an Experimental Model," has successfully completed professional peer review and is now published in a major medical journal.

This research project was conceived and developed at George W. Hewlett High School. Ella’s work has already received significant distinction at both the New York State Science and Engineering Fair (NYSSEF) and the Long Island Science and Engineering Fair (LISEF).

Her research was submitted to The Cureus Journal of Medical Science, which is a prominent, peer-reviewed open-access medical journal. Selected for its rigorous clinical standards, Cureus is indexed in PubMed Central, Google Scholar, and EBSCO. Being published by Cureus means that Ella’s research has been evaluated by established medical professionals and researchers. Moreover, her findings on pediatric liver stiffness will be available in the National Library of Medicine’s global database, ensuring her work is accessible to doctors and scientists worldwide.

Ella’s study investigates how GLP-1 receptor agonists (medications increasingly used for metabolic health) can reduce liver scarring and "normalize" gene expression in children suffering from Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatotic Liver Disease (MASLD). This work highlights the caliber of the science research program at Hewlett High School.
